Slow going
Going crazy
Well, another bout of deep depression has hit me. I haven't been up to doing/saying much online. Just check emails then scurry off again. Life has been well, life. Didn't want to clog this up with mundane talk, but figured I should write something before friends here thought that I was not coming back.
I'm still alive! Just hanging in there and trying to keep myself busy with the Faerie group here locally.
It's official!
My Celtic Cross
I was asked about the meaning of the Celtic cross on my altar, and I thought I'd make a post about it even though I also answered the question privately. :)
Well, first off, the cross is a very old symbol itself, as well as the circle, the two shapes that form the Celtic cross.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross
I'm of Irish descent, so I love the Celtic cross for the knot work and
knowing that there are quite a few standing in Ireland right now. It
gives me some connection to a place I have never been, though my
ancestors are from there.
The cross on my altar is also special in that it incorporates many
pagan symbols on it as well. On one face there is a pentacle surrounded
by mushrooms. Mushrooms I feel are connected to the Shamans and their
journeys using plants and fungus to achieve altered states. There is
also a very serene 'moon face' on one of the sides and something akin
to a 'yin/yang' symbol. The base is flanked by gargoyles, which I feel
are a symbol of protection.
I just feel a strong connection to this cross, and I have never seen
another one like it. It actually came to me after reading the very
first book on Pagan religions I bought, Celtic Magic by D.J Conway. In
that book the Celtic cross (though of equal arms) is described as the
four elements with spirit in the center as well as the four directions
and four winds (forming the universe) surrounded by the circle of
infinity.
My altar
Occasionally I take photos of my altar. I tend to 'update' it every now and then and it's interesting to take a look back at the images. Until relatively recently I only had a polaroid, but now have a digital camera. So, I took a few photos of my altar and put them in my photo album here, appropriately named 'Altar'. I think I'll take pictures whenever I make major changes and post them here for recording purposes.
I also just had to take a special picture of my 'Altar Bic'. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about what method one should use to light candles etc. so I thought I'd share mine. :)
